Production I.G

Production I.G, founded in 1987 by Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Takayuki Goto, is a Tokyo studio whose catalogue is dominated by feature animation, ambitious technical animation, and adaptations of complex source material. Its central works include the Ghost in the Shell features and TV series, Patlabor 2, Jin-Roh, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Psycho-Pass.

Founding

Production I.G was founded in 1987 as IG Tatsunoko, a Tatsunoko Production spin-off, and became independent in 1993. It is named after its co-founders Ishikawa and Goto. The studio's identity is closely tied to Mamoru Oshii, who directed several of its most internationally visible features during the 1990s and 2000s.

Selected output

  • Patlabor 2 (1993).
  • Ghost in the Shell (1995) and Innocence (2004).
  • Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999).
  • Blood: The Last Vampire (2000).
  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2002–2005).
  • Psycho-Pass (2012, co-production).
  • Haikyuu!! (2014–).

Subsidiaries and corporate structure

Production I.G is now part of the IG Port holding company (listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange), which also owns Wit Studio. The relationship explains why Wit's Attack on Titan production benefited from Production I.G infrastructure.
